· Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering or equivalent
· Relevant proven practical experience
· In Depth knowledge of IP protocols (TCP/IP) is a fundamental requirement
· Proven knowledge of HTTP and Compression techniques (lossy and lossless)
· Proven knowledge of GTP protocol
· Proven knowledge of Linux and Java
· Ability to deal with problems of a technical or operational nature quickly and effectively.
Desirable Skills
· Good knowledge related to MMI systems, Operating Systems and VPNs
· Good knowledge of Cisco routers and switches
· Familiarity with Parallel Processing in Computer systems to enhance capacity and improve reliability
· Knowledge of Test Automation systems and equipment to minimise manual testing
· Sound knowledge of satellite communication systems and equipment, testing and verification, data communication and networking and 3GPP technology.
Key Responsibilities
Network and Service Enhancements (IPNSE) consisting primarily of TCP-PEP , Compression, HTTP and IP Bonding;
· Manage the development, performance evaluation, testing and delivery of elements of IPNSE
· In the above task, liaise closely with the Developer of TCP-PEP (Aricent) IPNSE
· Be responsible for enhancements and up keep of TCP-PEP Soak Test Bed at Inmarsat Labs in London
· Manage the development of utilities for the detailed performance evaluation of elements of IPNSE
· Be responsible for the release testing and release management of new versions for Terminal side elements of IPNSE - these relate to new operating systems and/or new features and/or bug fixes
· Take an active role in the design and development of IPNSE for BGAN Network side, called Gn PEP (eg. Kernel independence, parallel processing for increased load capacity etc)
· Installation and Testing of Gn PEP at BGAN Operational sites (Burum, Fucino and Paumalu) and other locations as needed
· Provide operational support for Gn PEP at BGAN operational sites at Burum, Fucino and Paumalu).
· Work closely with UT manufacturers, DPs and Inmarsat Commercial team to resolve technical issues and bugs that may arise from time to time
· Review designs for the appropriate elements of IPNSE and take part in Design Reviews
· Configure and set up Cisco routers and switches
· In the above tasks , work closely with the Lead System Engineer and Project Manager
The successful candidate will take an active engineering role in the development, testing and delivery of products and services related to IP Network and Services Enhancements (IPNSE). These enhancements include TCP Acceleration (called TCP-PEP), HTTP Protocol Optimization , Data Compression and IP Bonding primarily in the BGAN Network, but also for the GSPS Data Service.
